This seminar brings Hartmut Rosa’s theory of social acceleration, alienation, and resonance into dialogue with Christian theology and contemporary church practice. Beginning with different understandings of the good life, we explore Rosa’s diagnosis of late modernity and his account of resonance. We then consider their theological significance and practical implications for worship, congregational singing, preaching, pastoral and spiritual care, confession, and congregational and diaconal life. The seminar concludes with a critical assessment of resonance as a framework for practical theology.
